Online Learning 2021-22

Online learning programs for the 2021-22 school year

Below you will find details about the fully online learning programs for students next school year.

Edmonds K-8 Online Academy

Students who enroll in the Edmonds K-8 Online Academy will no longer be enrolled at their current school. Classes will include other students who have also chosen the fully remote learning option for the 2021-22 school year. Edmonds K-8 Online Academy will follow the district calendar as far as holidays, early release days, etc.

Kindergarten - 6th grades

Families can expect the following:

  • The school day will be from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Early release days will end at 11 a.m.

  • Students will engage in a full day of learning activities that match the elementary instructional program and curriculum. This will include music, physical education, and library.

  • The student day will include both synchronous (live instruction) and asynchronous (independent) learning time. Synchronous time will be increased from what students experienced in the 2020-21 school year.

  • Daily attendance will be taken and engagement is expected. We will follow our district attendance policy.

7th - 8th grades

Families can expect the following:

  • The school day will be from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Early release days will end at 11 a.m.

  • Students will engage in a full day of learning and will follow a schedule that includes 6 class periods, an advisory, and a lunch break.

  • Students will take at least 5 of their 6 classes synchronously (live instruction). They will also have the option to take one of the following through our Edmonds eLearning Academy: an elective, PE/Health, or a high school course for credit. More information on this will be provided.

  • Daily attendance will be taken and engagement is expected. We will follow our district attendance policy.

Edmonds eLearning Academy

9th - 12th grades

High school students (9th - 12th graders) wanting fully remote learning for the 2021-22 school year will be a part of our Edmonds eLearning Academy. This well-established program provides an excellent option for many students. We have more details about the program on the Edmonds eLearning Academy website.

Opportunity to change student intent form first week of August

Families wanting to change their 2021-22 School Year Student Intent form will have an opportunity to do so between Monday, Aug. 2 and Friday, Aug. 6. All families will receive an email stating the choice they made in May. Families not needing to make a change can disregard the email. Families who want to change their intent will need to click on the student-specific link and fill out the form. After the first week in August, any intent form changes will only be made on a case-by-case basis.

Continued social-emotional support for students

The district is committed to continuing our work in social-emotional learning and supporting our students as we prepare for next school year. We will review our current programming to ensure the right supports are in place for our students and families. In addition to the great work provided by our current mental health and SEL professional staff, the district will hire school social workers to support the mental health needs of our students, families, and staff.
