Earning Additional Credits and Alternative Programs

One opportunity for earning extra high school credit is through world language proficiency testing.  Students who are proficient in a language other than English have the opportunity to earn up to four high school credits by demonstrating their proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in that language.
Students need to show their skills in all four categories in order to receive credit.

This test is available for students in grades 7-12 and the first test is free for students currently registered in the Edmonds School District.

NOTE:
World language proficiency testing is not recommended for full IB students at Edmonds-Woodway HS, as they must complete world language courses as part of their IB diploma course series.  Please contact the IB Coordinator for more details.

The Edmonds School District allows students to receive an extra 0.5 credit for a failed semester of 9th or 10th grade English (for ELA), Algebra 1 or Geometry (for Math) if the student completes the corresponding ELA or Math graduation pathway.

Students can also retrieve an extra 0.5 credit for any failed HS Science class by scoring Level 3 or 4 on the 11th grade WCAS (Science) test.

There are specific guidelines as to how this works. Your counselor should be able to determine whether this can be applied in your situation.

There are a variety of alternative high school programs through which a diploma can be earned, or additional credits can be earned.
Some of these programs are:

• Scriber Lake High School: an Edmonds School District Alternative High School  
• Running Start (either full time or part time)
• Edmonds e-Learning Academy (either full time or part time)
• High School Completion Programs such as EdCAP (Edmonds Career Access Program)
• Summer School
