Undocumented Student Information

Washington is currently one of ten states allowing undocumented students attending in-state universities to pay in-state tuition rates. In addition, the Dream Act of Washington State of 2014 offers eligibility for state need grants to undocumented students. Under the provisions of House Bill 1079, students qualify for in-state tuition in Washington when all of the following conditions are met:
  • Live in Washington State for three years immediately before receiving a high school diploma
  • Graduate from a Washington State high school
  • Sign an affidavit stating that the student will adjust his/her status as soon as possible
  • Be accepted into a public university in Washington.

Washington students should apply for financial aid through the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

Due to current federal legislation, undocumented students are not eligible for federal student aid (grants, loans, work study) or state need grants. Unless residency paperwork is in process, students should not submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
