Highly Capable Referral & Permission to Test Form

Testing occurs in November and December of 2026, for potential placement starting in the 2027-28 school year.

Enrolled Edmonds School dIstrict Students

Referral Students (kindergarten, 1st, 3rd - 5th, 7th - 12)

If your child is not in 2nd or 6th grade and you believe they would benefit from highly capable services, you can request that they participate in our annual screener. All students will be tested using the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3). On their school's designated testing day, students will take the screener in the library. In order to test, parents/guardians will need to complete a Referral and Permission to Test form no later than October 31st. Students may be referred by themselves, other students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members.

Testing occurs at each elementary and middle school. See chart below for specific dates.

Private & Independently Homeschooled Students

The first testing date for private school students is on Saturday, December 5, 2026. The second day of testing will be on Saturday, December 12, 2026.

In order to have a student assessed for the Highly Capable services, students must live within the Edmonds School District boundaries, be at least in kindergarten, complete a Referral form, and submit all required documents to the Highly Capable Department prior to the deadline of October 31st at 4:30 p.m.

Student Technology

Private & Independently Homeschooled Students are tested at Terrace Park Elementary. Students are required to attend BOTH testing dates. Along with the Naglieri Nonverbal Abilities Test (NNAT3), they will also take two achievement tests: iReady Reading and iReady Math. On the first day, students will take either the NNAT3 or the iReady Math assessment first, then switch after a break. Please plan on being at the school in excess of two hours. On the second testing day, students will take the iReady Reading assessment in the morning. Some students finish this test in less than an hour, but some have been known to go almost two hours. For all testing dates, parents must check-in their child and remain on site for the duration of the test.

Please note:  Private individual testing cannot be used in place of the group NNAT3 test. All students wanting acceptance into Highly Capable Programs must take the NNAT3 given by Edmonds School District proctors
