Student Annotation Canvas Assignment Submission for Students
How to use and submit an assignment in Canvas with the Student Annotation Submission Type.

1. Open the assignment in Canvas

Once the assignment is open, the assignment will include:

Select the Enter Full Screen arrows icon at the top of the page in order to view the document in a full screen mode.

4. Annotation Tools in the Toolbar
Select the tool from the toolbar

Point annotation - drops a pin and then type a comment about the item.

Highlight annotation - highlight document, but it doesn't work if the file is an image

Text - insert a text box to add typed text to a document

Strikeout - cross out text, but it doesn't work if the file is an image

Free draw annotation - freehand drawing or writing tool

Area annotation - select an area of the document and then type a comment about the selection.

5. Tool Options
Depending on the tool selected, you will be able to adjust settings such as the color. These settings will be on the left side of the document.

6. Exit Full Screen
If you selected the enter full screen option, select the exit full screen icon in the toolbar to get back to the assignment page.

7. Deleting an annotation
When you select an annotation, a white trash can pops up. Click it to delete an annotation that you no longer want to include.

8. Optional: Download Document
Select the Download Icon to download a copy of the document to your computer.

9. Submit Assignment
Once the assignment is complete, select Submit Assignment.
Note: Once it is submitted, you cannot open it to add additional content. If you open the document again for a new attempt, it will be a blank file with none of your annotations.
