Google Assignment LTI 1.3 for Students
How to access and submit a Canvas Assignment that uses the Google LTI 1.3 External Tool as the submission type.
Creation Date: May 5, 2023
1. Go to Canvas and Open the Assignment

Under the directions for the assignment, you will a section titled Google Assignments and a file attached that includes your name in front of the document title.

Select the button Open to Attach and Submit

2. Work on the Google Assignment LTI 1.3 External Tool Assignment

Under the directions for the assignment, you will a section titled Google Assignments and a file attached that includes your name in front of the document title.

Select the file to open your copy to edit. (Note: If there is not a file attached, you will need to select the Open to Attach and Submit Button to create a new document for this assignment)
Note: The first time that you access one of these assignments you will be prompted to link your District Google Account.

3. Work on and complete assignment
A document will open that you can edit. It is a Google Document so it will save as you work.

4. Close tab when done working on the assignment
You can return to this file at any time by simply going to the Canvas Assignment and clicking on the file attached to the assignment.

5. Submit, Attach Additional Files, or Create a New Document

Return to the Canvas page for the Assignment

Select on the Open to attach and submit button to do the following:
-
submit the assignment file attached
-
attach another file to the assignment, then submit
-
create a new Google Docs, Slides, or Sheet within this assignment

6. Create New Document
If the teacher wants you to create a new document that is attached to this assignment, select Create and choose the type of Google Document.
Note: Skip this step if you do not need to create a new document.

7. Attach additional files
If the teacher wants you to attach and submit additional files to this assignment, select Files and choose the ones to attach.
Note: Skip this step if you do not need to attach additional files.

8. Submit assignment
On the page for the assignment in Canvas, select the Submit button to turn in your work to the teacher. This will turn in the current version of the file and will not reflect any changes after you select submit.
Note: If you have already submitted the assignment once, the button will say resubmit.

9. Confirm the submission
Check to make sure the correct documents are attached especially if you were adding your own to the assignment submission.
Select Submit again.

Wait until files have uploaded before closing the assignment.
