Intensive Academic Support

The Elementary Intensive Academic Support program serves students across the district who have moderate to severe academic delays as well as behavior and social emotional delays. Students are served in center-based programs.

Intensive Academic Support staff provide "specialized instruction" in the areas of social skills, behavior management, and core academic skills in small-group settings as determined by the IEP team. The Intensive Academic Support teachers also:

  • Consult with general education teachers and building teams regarding student behavioral management plans, instructional interventions, and ways to support inclusion in general classroom settings.
  • Provide parent support and education.
  • Work as liaison with mental health, medical and other community agencies.
