Testing Description

Acadience - a screener for literacy associated with Dyslexia given to individual students. It is required by the state and is used to identify students for Title/LAP services. It is administered to all K, 1, and 2 students, as well as Gr 3-6 students who scored below benchmark on the prior spring Acadience assessment. 

AP & IB Exams - Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams are college level coursework and exams for high school students. They are taken in the spring by students who are enrolled in AP or IB courses during that school year.

CogAT - a multiple choice assessment used to identify students for the Highly Capable program. It measures reasoning skills and includes different types of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal questions. It is administered to students in grades K, 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 who have been referred.

Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) - a biennial survey given by the state to measure health risk behaviors that contribute to health, injury, illness, and social problems among youth in Washington state. It provides crucial information to schools, health professionals, human service agencies, and policymakers. It is administered to all grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 students. Edmonds students will NOT be taking the HYS assessment in the 24-25 school year.

i-Ready (Reading & Math) - an instructional tool that supports student learning in reading and math. The i-Ready Diagnostic assesses skills based on standards to help teachers identify student needs, differentiate learning, and monitor student progress throughout the school year. It also estimates student performance on the SBA due to its correlation to state assessments. It is administered 3 times a year to all K-8 students and grade 9 Algebra students. 

Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test - is a non verbal screener that has language-free multiple choice questions that do not require language or cultural knowledge in order to be able to answer. Test items evaluate students' ability to recognize relationships and patterns among pictures and shapes. It is used to identify students for the Highly Capable Program and is administered to all 2nd and 6th graders. 

PSAT - is a practice version of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which is used by some colleges for admissions.  Participation in the PSAT is the basis for the National Merit scholarship program. It is administered to students in grade 11 who sign up to participate. 

Smarter Balanced (SBA) ELA & Math - are required for federal and state accountability. The high school ELA and math assessments can also be used to meet a student's graduation pathway requirement. They are administered to all students in grades 3-8 and grade 10. 

STAMP (Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency) Test - is used to measure language proficiency for students. It is administered annually to all students enrolled in the dual language program.

Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS) - is a transition process that helps ensure a successful start to the K-12 experience. It includes a Family Connection meeting at the beginning of the school year. The Family Connection provides an opportunity for parents to share information about their child and help build a strong parent/teacher partnership. 

Washington Access to Instruction & Measurement (WA-AIM) - is an alternate assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities. It is used for federal and state accountability in grades 3-8 and 10 for ELA and Math and can be used to meet a student's graduation pathway requirement. Science is administered in grades 5,8 and 11.

Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) - measures the level of proficiency that students have achieved based on the Washington State Science Learning Standards (WSSLS), formerly known as NGSS standards. It is administered to all students in grades 5, 8, and 11.

WIDA - Multilingual learners in Washington state are screened and tested annually using WIDA assessments.

  • WIDA Screener identifies whether a student qualifies for multilingual services. It is administered to new students in grades K-12 who indicate another language spoken other than English on their Home Language Survey. 

  • WIDA ACCESS is a summative language proficiency assessment that measures a student's growth in language acquisition. It is administered annually to all students in the multilingual program and identifies whether a student continues to qualify for multilingual services. 

  • WIDA Alternate ACCESS is a summative language proficiency assessment that measures a student's growth in language acquisition. It is administered annually to students in our multilingual program with the most significant cognitive disabilities and identifies whether a student continues to qualify for multilingual services.

World Language Proficiency Testing - the District uses a variety of assessments to determine if students are literate/proficient in a language other than English. They are administered to students in grades 9-12 who wish to earn a Seal of Biliteracy or earn credit.
