Wellness Policy
Edmonds School District believes that there is an important positive relationship between good nutrition, health, behavior and student learning. To help students make healthy choices, the Edmonds School Board adopted a series of policies and procedures focused on nutrition, physical activity and wellness in order to encourage healthy choices and active lifestyles.
The policies and procedures are in response to state and federal requirements and align with state recommendations. Poor nutrition and inactivity affect children’s health and their ability to learn. Schools provide perfect opportunities to model and reinforce healthy behaviors by encouraging healthy food choices that are consistent with nutrition recommendations along with physical activity and recess.

Program, and the United States Department of Agriculture Food Distribution Program. USDA regulations guide our program. Weekly and monthly menus are planned by experienced staff members and reviewed by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. These menus meet USDA specifications based on the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Healthy Americans and are designed to appeal to students.
Sales of food to students on campus during the school day are monitored to ensure compliance with Smart Snacks in School federal regulations. Student stores, vending machines, and foods sold à la carte by the Food and Nutrition Services department are inspected annually.
