Latest Project Updates

Roof replacement projects are underway at Meadowdale Elementary and Terrace Park Elementary Schools. Both projects are scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2026–2027 school year. The existing roofs are more than 25 years old. The new roofing systems are expected to provide an additional 25-year service life, help prevent future water damage, extend the useful life of the school buildings, and reduce the risk of disruptions or lost instructional days due to roof-related issues. Both projects were funded by the 2024 Tech/Capital Levy and 2024 Bond.

Edmonds Elementary Schools have a new roof structure to cover the existing outdoor play space. The project consisted of a new unenclosed mass timber structure to withstand marine air, new basketball hoops and new painted courts for a variety of play activities. Thank you to our voters for another successful project funded by the 2021 Capital Levy.

The Meadowdale High School Baseball and Softball Field Replacement project included the conversion from synthetic turf to natural grass, providing a more durable and sustainable playing surface. The upgraded fields offer all-weather play while reducing the need for watering, mowing, and chemical treatments. The infield also features natural cork infill, providing natural shock absorption while offering an environmentally friendly, clean, and odor-free solution.

The project also included new field lighting, allowing students and teams to use the fields during evening hours and expanding opportunities for community use and public activities.

The Single-Stall Restroom Project at Alderwood Middle School and Mountlake Terrace High School provides students with greater privacy, safety, dignity, and accessibility. The new single occupancy restrooms are designed to give students a more comfortable and secure option while reducing concerns associated with crowded communal restroom spaces. The restrooms are located along open, high-visibility hallways, with shared hand-washing stations outside the individual restrooms. This layout provides increased privacy while maintaining visibility and supervision within the school environment. The project also improves the overall functionality of the schools by providing additional restroom capacity and modernizing facilities to better meet the needs of today’s students.

The playgrounds at Chase Lake Elementary School and Meadowdale Elementary School were replaced after approximately 25 years of use. The new playgrounds incorporate universal design principles to provide safe, accessible, and inclusive play opportunities for students of all abilities. The improvements also provide updated, durable equipment that supports active play and enhances the overall school environment. The projects were funded through the 2021 Capital Levy and were completed in Spring 2026.

Replacement of the existing theater lighting systems and control panels at Lynnwood High School and Mountlake Terrace High School. The project will modernize the theaters by replacing outdated incandescent and halogen lighting fixtures and controls with energy-efficient LED lighting technology and updated control systems.

This project will extend the useful life of the theater facilities, improve reliability, reduce long-term operating costs, and provide students with a modern, professional-quality lighting system that supports performing arts programs and community use.

Funding: 2024 Bond

Replacement of aging fire alarm control panels and related equipment at five District schools. The upgrades will improve system reliability, ensure compatibility with current fire alarm components, support code compliance, and provide dependable fire and life-safety protection for students, staff, and visitors. The project will also reduce the risk of system failures and challenges associated with discontinued equipment and replacement parts.

Construction is underway for Salish Middle School. The existing Former Alderwood Middle School Building has been successfully and safely demolished and the area is in the process of being cleaned and prepared for grading.

Grading and site utilities have been completed for the new parking lot near Alderwood Mall Parkway and paving will begin soon. Mass excavation and grading is underway for the new building foundations and footings. Drilling for the geothermal system is progressing steadily.

Fencework will begin soon and proceed through November to establish the new secure site perimeter, while this work is being completed some neighboring properties may be affected if they do not have their own fencing, notification letters have been sent to the owners of these properties.
