Westgate Elementary School

Project Progress

Westgate Elementary School Replacement Project is the final full school replacement included in the 2024 Bond Measure. The project has an estimated Total Project Cost of $90 million for construction. Through the GCCM selection process, Westgate Elementary has identified its project team, and design is now underway. Mithun has been selected to lead the Design Team and predesign is now underway. The School Board approved Cornerstone General Contractors, Inc. for preconstruction.

The District intends to construct a new 550-student capacity K–5 elementary school utilizing the most feasible site layout. The plan is to build the new Westgate Elementary on the existing school site. During construction, the school may either remain operational on site or, more likely, temporarily relocate to an interim site at Woodway Elementary School until the new facility is complete.

Woodway Elementary School is currently being used by College Place Elementary for two years while their new school is under construction. College Place Elementary is anticipated to move out during the summer of 2028, at which time the site will be available to accommodate Westgate Elementary.

Current staff, parents, students, and community members will be engaged throughout the planning and design process. In addition to maintaining a strong focus on student learning environments, improving traffic flow has also been identified as a key priority for the project.

The Design Team will collaborate closely with a District-level Project Steering Committee (PSC) and a site-level Design Review Committee (DRC). The first DRC meeting was held on February 6 2026, and meetings will continue throughout the design process. Meeting information will be posted and updated on this website. Community meetings will also be scheduled, and neighbors will be notified by mail. Additional communication will be shared through the Westgate Elementary newsletter and the District newsletter.

The District anticipates significant coordination among the design team, GC/CM, and Capital Projects staff throughout design and construction.

The District plans to open the new Westgate Elementary in September 2029. This timeline may be adjusted as the project progresses. The selected design team will work with the District and GC/CM to refine and confirm the schedule.
