Capacity Advisory Committee
Advisory group recommends kindergarten campus to address capacity issues
Posted on 02/22/2021
The Capacity Advisory Committee voted to recommend that the Edmonds School District move forward with a kindergarten campus to address overcrowding issues at Sherwood and Westgate elementary schools.
The advisory group (consisting of parents, teachers, principals, Edmonds Education Association President and central office staff) looked at both short-term and long-term solutions and also reviewed input and feedback from stakeholders.
The other option discussed was to move Sherwood and Westgate elementary 6th grade classrooms to College Place Middle. That move would have displaced Edmonds eLearning Academy.
After thoroughly looking into the options, the Capacity Advisory Committee voted to move forward with opening a kindergarten campus at Former Woodway Elementary. This kindergarten campus is planned to open for Sherwood and Westgate kindergarteners for the 2021-2022 school year.
A presentation on the kindergarten campus recommendation will be given to the School Board at tomorrow’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23. You can find the Zoom information to the Board meeting on our district calendar. It will also be streamed live on the district’s YouTube channel.
