Winter Break Project: 5th Grade Chromebook Swap

Winter Break Project: 5th Grade Chromebook Swap

Posted on 12/20/2019

While our students and many staff enjoy winter break, there are a few staff teams that have been gearing up for projects in our schools.

A large number of Chromebooks are due for replacement, which has provided a great opportunity to look at our Chromebook inventory comprehensively. A tech team will visit every elementary school and swap Chromebooks for all district 5th grade students using funds still available from the current replacement levy. Fifth graders will return from break to new Chromebook computers ready to use.

The District is grateful to our community for the continued support of the Technology/Capital Levy, which includes student learning devices. That support has allowed us to provide devices at a 1:1 student to device ratio for all 2nd through 12th grade students and at a 2:1 student to device ratio for all of our Kindergarten and 1st grade students.

Below is a summary of the district’s tentative replacement plan that will continue if the new replacement levy passes on February 11, 2020.

Summary of Chromebook Plan:

  • 2019-2020 (Current School Year) Elementary Chromebook Changes
    • 5th graders will receive new Chromebooks which will follow them through 8th grade. This work will begin during Winter Break and be completed by mid-January.
    • Additional Chromebook inventory changes will be made in the spring.
  • 2020-2021 (Next School Year) Chromebook Inventory
    • New and re-used Chromebooks issued in grades K-4 and 6-8. All replacement student Chromebooks will be include touchscreen capabilities.
