FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), was started by Segway founder Dean Kamen with the intention to inspire young people to be innovators and leaders in science and technology fields. FIRST does this via mentorships and programs, like the FIRST Robotics Competition, which is comprised of almost 4,000 teams and over 90,000 students and adult mentors worldwide.
Mountlake Terrace High School Robotics is part of Washington FIRST Robotics, a statewide nonprofit that inspires all young people ages 6-18 to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based FIRST programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
