District’s “Time Committee” Seeks Family & Parent Participants

In order to provide ongoing improved learning opportunities for all students, our educators are given time during the school year to learn and make instructional adjustments that will best support students’ academic growth. How and when that time is given will be looked at this year by the aptly named, districtwide “Time Commitee.”
The first meeting is set for Nov. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Educational Services Center (District offices). This group will meet consistently from Nov. 2017 through January 2019, with the goal of making a recommendation to the School Board in January 2019 for implementation in the 2019-20 school year.
“For many years, variations of half day and ‘non-student’ day calendars have been used,”’ Assistant Superintendent Greg Schwab said. “The goal of this group will be to research late start/early release schedule options and make a recommendation to the School Board whether we continue our current practice or adopt a different model to provide time within the workday for educators to learn and collaborate.”
This is a different group from last year’s school start time committee. However, if a new model is recommended there is the potential this could contribute toward our ongoing discussion regarding school start times, Schwab added.
Our Time Committee is examining options to provide time for our school staffs to do more consistent professional development, and to provide educators with more consistent time for grading, planning and other work that falls outside the school day.

Un esfuerzo conjunto con nuestros educadores para abordar el tema de como proporcionar un aprendizaje continuo y estructurado
Para poder ofrecer mejores oportunidades de aprendizaje y de manera continua a todos los estudiantes, durante el transcurso del año se les da un tiempo a nuestros educadores para que aprendan y hagan ajustes a su instrucción con la finalidad de apoyar de mejor manera al crecimiento académico del estudiante. El cómo y cuándo es que se les dará este tiempo, será revisado este año por el grupo distrital denominado “Time Commitee.”
La primera junta está programada para el 14 de noviembre de 6:30 p.m. a 8 p.m. en el centro de Servicios Educacionales (oficinas del distrito). Este grupo se reunirá de manera regular desde noviembre 2017 hasta enero de 2019, con el objetivo de hacerle una recomendación a la junta directiva en enero de 2019 e implementarla en el año escolar 2019-20.
“Por muchos años se usó la variación de mediodías y días de no estudiantes (‘non-student days’) en el calendario”, dijo el Superintendente Auxiliar Greg Schwab. “El objetivo de este grupo será analizar las opciones de los horarios de inicio tarde y salida temprano de clases, con el fin de hacerle recomendaciones a la junta directiva de si se continua con esta práctica actual o de adoptar un diferente modelo que proporcione a los educadores tiempo dentro de su día de trabajo para aprender y colaborar”.
Este es un grupo distinto de “time committee” al del año pasado. Sin embargo, si se llegase a recomendar un nuevo modelo, hay un potencial de que esto contribuya hacia nuestras continuas discusiones referentes a los horarios de inicio de clases, añadió Schwab.
Nuestro equipo de Time Committee está examinando las opciones para proporcionarle a nuestro personal de las escuelas tiempo para que tengan un desarrollo profesional más consistente y proveer a los educadores con más tiempo de manera regular para calificar, planear y realizar otros trabajos que caen fuera de las horas escolares.
