Managing student use of district Google accounts with Hapara

Now that many students are back in school buildings, teachers may be using Hapara Highlights to manage student use of district provided Google Apps accounts. Highlights is an extension installed on students' school Google Apps accounts to let teachers and administrators see the tabs that students have open in Chrome. Highlights also lets teachers open and close web pages for students. This applies to any student logged into Chrome with their school district Google Apps account, at school or at home, while on their assigned Chromebook or in Chrome on a personal device.

Some students may use a shared personal device when at home. This Hapara FAQ for Parents will answer many of your questions and help you understand how to log a student out of the Chrome browser on a personal device when someone else will be using the device. Having your student only use the Chromebook assigned to them is an easy way to ensure Hapara will not impact other family members.

If you need any support related to Hapara Highlights, please reach out to the Student Technology Support team at techsupport@edmonds15.org or call 425-431-1211. You can also reach out to your teacher.

7-12 grade students are back, and we have an update on summer learning opportunities!

We were thrilled to welcome back our 7-12 grade students for in-person learning last week! Our students and staff have adjusted to the daily health checks and are supporting each other well through learning in this new process.

We know for many this year is a challenge. To help students prepare for the 2021-22 school year we will offer the following summer programs:

  • high school summer school

  • K-8 in-person summer learning program

  • K-8 online summer learning program

Programs will run July 6-August 5. For more information, please visit our Summer Learning website .

Coming soon! Free voluntary COVID-19 testing in our schools

The Edmonds School District, in partnership with the Washington Department of Health and Health Commons Project, will soon offer free testing for all students and staff who develop symptoms while on-campus.

Testing in our schools is a strategy that we can use to mitigate COVID-19 transmission. Families won't need to go to another place to receive a test. It's self-administered and we hope it will help get students back into classrooms quickly.

We're partnering with a company called Curative, which uses reliable oral swab test kits. Students and staff will collect their own saliva samples under the observation of trained test administrators. Results will be provided within 48 hours.

Each precaution we take is like an added layer of protection, and when used together, they dramatically decrease the risks.

The district will begin offering COVID-19 testing in schools through a pilot at three schools: Spruce Elementary, Meadowdale High and Meadowdale Middle. We hope to expand this offering to all schools in mid-late May.

Graduation ceremony updates

In order to provide in-person graduation ceremonies, each high school's graduation planning team is working to develop plans that align with specific guidance from the state .

We are considering the option of creating smaller senior class cohorts where students have a specific number of tickets for their families to attend the ceremony in person. We are also looking at plans to allow for all seniors to graduate together with limited seating for immediate family members.

In each of the plans we are considering, there will be limited access for spectators so we are also planning to live-stream the ceremonies online.

While we don't have all the specific times worked out, we do have dates for our comprehensive high schools:

  • Edmonds-Woodway High School – Saturday, June 19

  • Meadowdale High School – Saturday, June 19

  • Lynnwood High School – Sunday, June 20

  • Mountlake Terrace High School – Sunday, June 20

Our other high schools are working to determine new graduation dates to be able to use the stadium for the ceremonies. Dates will be announced soon for:

  • Edmonds Heights K-12 TBA

  • Edmonds eLearning Academy TBA

  • Scriber Lake High School TBA

United through music

Quad concerts are an annual event that bring musicians from elementary through high school together to learn and perform. This year, the Quad concert had to go virtual. Led by Meadowdale High's Jeff Horenstein, the concert might have a different look, but when it comes to music, looks are secondary.

Here is another example of how a heavy dose of skill, tons of passion, and a little technological savvy come together to make incredible music in a remote learning environment.

Health check tips for our in-person families

Schools have done a great job taking on the challenge of daily health attestations, and the last few weeks have shown your planning and hard work have paid off!

All students attending school in person must have a health attestation on file prior to entering the school building each day. Emails titled “Action Required: Student – Edmonds School District Daily Symptom Check” are sent directly to families around 5 am The email links provided are student-specific so you need to complete an attestation form for each student attending in-person learning.

Here are a few tips that will help schools streamline the attestation process for students:

  1. Please complete the attestation as early as possible. One hour prior to arrival at school is ideal. You know you have done the attestation correctly when you get the green check mark!

  2. If you are dropping your students via car, you can take a screenshot of each attestation and have them ready on your phone. When you get to the curb, just show a staff member the green checkmark(s), and your students are good to go!

  3. If you are sending your students via bus or walking and your student has a mobile phone, you can share screenshots of the completed attestation with your students, so they can easily show staff upon arrival.

The health attestation process is important as a primary protection to mitigate COVID-19 transmission. Students without a completed attestation form are not permitted inside school buildings until we can verify their health with a family member or a trained staff member completes a full health check including asking about possible symptoms and taking a temperature.

Thanks for your supporting our efforts to streamline this process while ensuring the safety of our students and staff!
