Winter weather preparation

Winter weather preparation

Posted on 02/10/2021

Dear Edmonds School District families,

With snow looking more likely in the coming days, we want to remind families of our inclement weather plan for this school year.

The Edmonds School District regularly monitors weather forecasts and the possible effects it may have on teaching, learning and operations within the district. Planning for winter weather in the 2020-21 school year is different than in past years. As a result of remote learning, we are better positioned to continue school even when it is snowing, and or the roads are icy. Changes to school schedules because of winter weather will be limited and traditional "snow day" closures are unlikely.

Power or Internet outage plan
In the event of a power or network outage during remote learning, the district will follow our Power Outage Plan. The plan explains steps both families and staff need to take if their power or internet connection goes out.

Stage 1 students, E-Hub and student outdoor conditioning cohorts

If snow causes our campuses to become unsafe (parking lot, sidewalk areas, etc.), the district will cancel all in-person learning services and those students and staff will revert to remote learning. In the event of a district closure of buildings and facilities, E-Hub will also be closed for the day(s), and student outdoor conditioning cohorts will also be canceled.

Staying informed

In the event that all district facilities are closed, the district will notify staff and families through text, email, voice message, the district website and we will share information on our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

Managing your communications preferences

It is important to keep up-to-date contact information on record with your student's school. When there is a school schedule change, the phone number listed as guardian contacts are called. For information on receiving district text messages, please visit the Text Messaging website. .

Childcare
The YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Kids Krew and Right At School operate at our buildings. If we do experience inclement weather in our area, those providers will contact their families directly as to whether they will be in operation or not.

Stay warm and stay safe

Please stay warm and stay safe as we continue to monitor the forecast. Again, we will provide you updated information on any decisions made by the district that may create changes for your student(s) and family.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gustavo Balderas
Superintendent
