Kindergarten Readiness Guidelines

Edmonds School District and four other nearby school districts have collaborated to produce checklists for families to use to get an idea of what skills and activities are typical in our Kindergarten classrooms. These checklists are available in the following languages:

EnglishSpanish (Español) , Vietnamese (Chương trình), Korean (한국어/조선말)Arabic (العربية)Russian (русский), Ukranian (українська)Chinese (正體字/繁體字)EthiopianTagalog (Wikang Tagalog)Cambodian (ខ្មែរ), Marshallese (Kajin Majel)Somali (Af-Soomaali)Oromo (Afaan Oromoo)Tigrinya (ትግርኛ) and Amharic (አማርኛ).

Parents and caregivers can assess whether their children are demonstrating these skills already or are working on developing them. The 6 areas and the individual skills are drawn from the WA Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS). WaKIDS is used in many classrooms around the state to provide a snapshot of where kindergartners are in their development early in the school year.
