Are we looking to change how snow make-up days are scheduled?

Yes! We have a long-standing tradition of five make-up days being scheduled following the last day of school. We have heard your feedback and are exploring placing one of the five within the school year. We will release the exact dates once we have the full 2017-2018 calendar.

When will the full 2017-18 calendar be available?

There is a strong possibility our initial plan to have it finalized by the end of spring (mid-June), may have to be moved to August. This is a year we are in collective bargaining for a new contract with our Edmonds Education Association, which represents our approximately 1,200 certificated/teaching staff. The professional development days and where they are placed on the calendar is subject to negotiations. Additionally, the State Legislative session is addressing the possibility of supporting districts with professional development time and we do not know what the outcome will be. This is a very unusual year with so many mitigating circumstances impacting our ability to finalize the full calendar. Your continued patience is appreciated.

Will there be a printed Student Artwork Calendar and Parent Handbook for 2017-2018?

We are concerned about timeliness and considering the possibility of providing the artwork calendar online and in a printable format for those who want paper copies. This is partially due to the calendar dates not being available until August as well as taking into consideration ways to redirect dollars to better support our communication to families. The parent handbook would still be printed and distributed to families through schools at the start of the school year. It contains time-sensitive and required annual notifications that we want to ensure reach you as soon as possible.
