School Change Information

2026-27 Application Process is Closed

School Change Deadlines

Secondary (Middle and High Schools) deadline: Friday, February 13, 2026

Elementary deadline: Friday, May 29, 2026

The school change deadlines will be enforced as listed in School Board Policy 3131/3131P.

Important Notes:

  • Due to limited space in all of our schools, families may not receive a response to their application request until August 1, 2026.
  • Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadlines.
  • If approved, parents are responsible for transportation to and from the approved school.
  • This process does not apply to Madrona K-8, Maplewood Parent Cooperative K-8, Edmonds Heights K-12, Edmonds eLearning Academy, Scriber Lake High SchoolDual Language Program, or the Highly Capable K-8 Program. Please get in touch with these schools or programs directly for their entry guidelines.
  • In-district students interested in the IB Program at Edmonds-Woodway High School can apply directly to the program - IB Application Process. Nonresident students wanting to attend Edmonds-Woodway High must apply through the School Change process by completing the application.
  • Currently enrolled students, if you have moved, and your address assigns you to a different school than the one you are attending, contact your current school to complete a P-135 Address Verification Form.
  • Secondary student-athletes who change schools without a corresponding change of residence may be required to compete at the sub-varsity level for a set period. Contact the athletic director of your school for further details.
  • Expectations and Requirements: In-district school change applications are only open to students who are in good academic standing (no failing grades and at least a 2.0 GPA), have satisfactory attendance (no unexcused absences or excessive tardiness), and have no severe behavior violations such as suspensions.
  • Students approved for transfer will be allowed to continue at that school until the end of the child's education in that school without reapplying in succeeding years, provided that this assurance may be waived when the District attendance boundaries are altered by Board action and/or when a school is determined to exceed capacity per district guidelines or a student's educational success is disrupted due to attendance or behavior violations.
  • Nonresident students to the Edmonds School District must also complete the Choice Transfer Application in addition to the school change application.

Appeals:

If your application was received by the deadline and denied, follow the process below. Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed and cannot be appealed.
