School Change/Transfer

school change

2026-27 Application Process Opened January 5, 2026

This process is for both NEW in-district and NEW out-of-district school change requests. Current students who reside out of the district and have been previously approved are still required to complete the Choice Transfer application with their neighboring school district. This process is required annually.

Secondary school deadline:  February 13, 2026
Elementary school deadline:  May 29, 2026

If you recently moved and need to transfer schools, this is not a school change request. Contact your current or new school for support in the next steps.

School Change

The School Change transfer process is for when a student is requesting enrollment at an Edmonds School District school that is different than a student's assigned neighborhood school.

Choice Transfer

This application is required annually by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for ALL students attending a school district that is not their assigned neighborhood district. Students are assigned a school district by their address where the student lives.

The process of requesting a choice transfer for enrollment or continued enrollment at a school district that is different from the assigned school and district based on home address.

  • If you are a NEW nonresident student to the Edmonds School District, the first step is to complete the P-138 School Change application listed above. Please note the School Change process for 2025-26 is now closed. Second step is to receive a waiver from their district of residence by completing the required Choice Transfer application.
  • Current nonresident students who have been previously approved to attend one of Edmonds schools must complete the Choice Transfer application annually as it is required by the Superintendent Office of Public Instruction (OSPI).
  • Edmonds School District residents may request choice transfers in order to enroll in another school district but should consider contacting that district for their process of accepting nonresident students.
