Student Safety Information
Providing for your child's safety when school is in session is a major responsibility of the school staff. All schools have a disaster plan for student safety. The principal and school staff are prepared to make prompt and responsible decisions in any situation that could threaten the safety of students.
The need to close a school and evacuate the students before the regularly scheduled closing time could arise from a relatively minor emergency to such situations as prolonged interruptions of power or from a major event such as fire, disastrous earthquake or severe storms. At times, communication and/or transportation may be disrupted.
In the event of a major event or disaster
We are prepared to care for your child in emergency situations. If you are not able to reach the school, we will care for your child until you or a designated person arrives. We have a number of staff members with first-aid training and we will be in communication with local emergency services. We do ask your help in the following ways—
It is important that we prepare personally and in relationship to others in the school community as well as the broader community. During the year your child will practice the necessary emergency procedures. Students will learn how to react, where to assemble, and what to expect in an emergency situation. Education, knowledge and preparation are all part of keeping everyone safe.
While we do not expect to have a situation where children remain at school for prolonged periods of time, we want to be prepared for such an event. Please seriously consider providing us with a three day supply of any medications your child may need, in pharmacy labeled containers, in a closed and labeled ziplock baggie. This will be put into the classroom emergency evacuation backpack and returned to you at the end of the school year.
In the event the school has to be evacuated, your child will be moved to an alternative safe site for care. Information regarding evacuation will be posted at the school, and throughout all the media sources cited on the other side.
Please make certain your child's STUDENT EMERGENCY RELEASE AUTHORIZATION form (P-139) is complete and up to date. This is located in our school office. In an emergency, no students will be released early from school except to the appropriate parent(s)/legal guardian, or previously authorized person(s) with valid picture identification. In other words, we cannot release a child to anyone who is not listed on this form in our office.
