2010 Supplemental School Programs and Operation Levy

  • Passed by voters in August 2010; four-year measure.

The Supplemental School Programs and Operation Levy provides additional general fund dollars our district can use to support general fund expenditures. The state legislature made this revision to state law, allowing school districts to make the local decision to seek additional revenue from its taxpayers, which in the case of our Edmonds School District community is augmenting the need for further reductions mid-year. Reduction in state funds during the 2010-11 school year will be offset by the Spring 2011 collection of this supplemental levy. An additional collection in Fall 2011 will be applied toward the 2011-12 budget.

It is important to note that the Supplemental Levy is in addition to the replacement School Programs and Operation Levy passed in Feb. 2010. The replacement levy is approproximately 20 percent of the district's general fund budget and provides more teachers and direct classroom support not funded by the state.
