What is STEM?

STEM education is an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics that engages students in critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, and collaboration around authentic challenges faced in our everyday lives. In STEM, learning goes beyond merely transferring knowledge by allowing students to apply learning through hands-on, relevant projects. As a result, students who participate in Edmonds School District STEM classrooms and co-curricular STEM opportunities deepen their understanding and interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to levels foundational for success in college and high demand, high wage STEM careers.

STEM Education Opportunities

In the Edmonds School District, STEM education opportunities are available to all students through a variety of STEM projects embedded within core Science and Mathematics courses and curriculum. In addition, a variety of specialized STEM courses and co-curricular opportunities are available at each middle and comprehensive high school across the district. For information about any of these STEM opportunities, contact the appropriate school office.
