3600-R1 - Procedures for Disposal of Instructional Materials



1. An order for disposal of instructional materials owned by Edmonds School District shall be approved by the superintendent or his/her designee before the district releases ownership or destroys said materials.

2. Public school students, other school districts, and private schools shall have priority to purchase textbooks.

3. A private school must make a request annually to be notified of "surplus materials." The request should be filed on or before January 31 of the year for which the request is made.

4. All others interested in information concerning surplus materials shall be notified by advertisement when the sale of materials will take place.

5. After alternative educational uses of instructional materials scheduled for disposal have been exhausted within the schools of the district, one of the following means of disposal shall be ordered by the superintendent or his/her designee:

a. Materials may be traded in for other instructional materials.
b. Materials may be advertised and sold to the highest bidder.
c. Materials may be made available to charitable groups.
d. Materials remaining that are of no obvious value may be disposed of in the most inexpensive yet ecologically sound method.
