Dr. BalderasMessage from the Superintendent

Hello and Welcome to the 20-21 school year.  As we prepare for the most difficult school year start in my career, I reflect on this past spring and the shift from our traditional brick and mortar learning to emergency remote instruction and how resilient our students, staff and community have been. I reflect back on what was lost for our students.  From lost sporting events, proms, outdoor school, graduations, and most importantly face-to-face instruction, it was not the spring that anyone would have wanted. I want to thank everyone for their patience and grace as the district shifted in a quick manner to provide the best form of education we could with the resources available. I want to thank our fantastic staff for their professionalism and resilience in the face of adversity.

This summer was spent working in 21 work groups focused on operations and instructional aspects of a hybrid model of education. There is no perfect model of instruction during this time based on state requirements, but a model to meet the needs of as many of our students as possible.

We understand that the beginning of the coming school year will be difficult for students and families. The district will need to follow all of the restrictions in place locally to ensure student and staff safety. It will not be perfect and we will continue to adapt as the restrictions change. Our hope is for our students to be back in school learning face-to-face with all of their peers everyday. We want our families to attend school plays, sporting events, school conferences and all of the activities that bring our community together, as soon as safely possible.

As I begin my tenure as your superintendent, please know that we will not lose focus on continuing our school improvement work and our work to meet the needs of ALL of our students. Thank you for allowing me to serve our students.
