Oak Heights Elementary School

Project Description

It is with gratitude we thank our voters for approving our 2021 Capital Levy, which will fund the Edmonds School District Oak Heights Elementary School Replacement Project. The construction of the new facility replaces the existing 1967 Oak Heights Elementary School and is expected to start in the spring or summer of 2025. The new school will be built on the same site.

In April 2021, the District’s voters approved by 56.65 percent, a $180 million levy measure that specifically identified the replacement of Oak Heights Elementary School. For the duration of construction, students and staff will be located at the Former Alderwood Middle School.

The buildings at Oak Heights Elementary are functionally obsolete and past their useful life.

The Oak Heights Elementary School design concept will be based on the District-Wide Elementary School Educational Specifications that are currently in the process of being updated by the design team. The last version was updated in 2014, and since then, we have had a change in administration, a new strategic plan and new codes to take into account with the planning of the new facility.

The new Oak Heights facility is expected to be about 75,000 square feet, including classrooms, music, gymnasium, library, support spaces, commons, and administration. The facility will take advantage of outdoor learning areas, including new play areas, landscaping, and site improvements, such as; parking, bus and automobile circulation, emergency vehicle access, neighborhood pedestrian connections, and significant new stormwater management facilities.

Our next tasks include the involvement of the community, students, families, and educators in ongoing planning discussions, as we move from planning into the design of the new school.

The budget for this project is $70 million.
