Mountlake Terrace Elementary Receives 2016 Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award

Lets Move
Let’s Move! Active Schools honored Mountlake Terrace Elementary with the 2016 Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award for its outstanding efforts in creating an Active School environment.

The Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award is the nation’s top physical education and physical activity distinction for K-12 schools. It celebrates a school’s commitment to integrating at least 60 minutes of physical activity before, during and after the school day. Only 544 schools across the country achieved this prestigious honor.

Physical Education Teacher Carli Brockman led this active schools movement, providing students with a variety of extra opportunities to engage in activity, encouraging a community that will value their health and fitness for life. She is now a Move 60 Coordinator at the District level. Jake Dalton and new PE teacher, Kristin McGee, will continue the great work that’s underway at Mountlake Terrace Elementary.

To earn a Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award, a school must have met significant benchmarks in five areas: physical education; physical activity before and after school; physical activity during school; staff involvement; and family & community engagement.
