Longtime math tutor and community member Darrol Haug has provided math guidance to many children attending Maplewood Coop. In January 2007, he took this support to the next level by sharing tips and guidance with a group of school paraeducators. His effective technique for supporting math learning is now positively impacting students in other schools. The materials below are resources developed by Darrol that can be printed and utilized when working with children on improving their math skills. Read the Everett Herald article featuring Darrol and his efforts.
Math Tools for Basic Multiplication and DivisionThis information supports the Edmonds School District math standards for multiplication and division for grades 3 and 4. While this information is geared to the standards for the third and fourth grades it can be used to assess any student on their mastery of multiplication and division facts. These tools give the teacher, the parent, or the student themselves an easy way to evaluate if the student is meeting the standards, and, if not, some useful tools to help with improving their skills. These tools have been tested and reviewed by a number of Edmonds School District staff and have been used successfully for one-on-one tutoring with students up to the seventh grade. Students and parents have also used the tools successfully. This packet contains 5 modules to help access and improve basic multiplication and division skills.
