How to Qualify New Defensive Drivers

Any new drivers who anticipate driving students during the current school year must attend the Defensive Driving Class on the following date.

Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 6:30-8 p.m. Transportation Bldg

Training will be held at the Transportation Department, 3009 Alderwood Mall Boulevard.
Enter off of 33rd Avenue W next to Pro Golf.

How to Continue Your Driving Qualification

Each year in August or September submit a copy of all of your current credentials to Transportation along with the Defensive Driving Authorization Request.

  1. Defensive Drivers Authorization Request
  2. Photocopy of Washington State Drivers License
  3. Photocopy of current First Aid Card
  4. Drivers Abstract – 5 year – obtained by applicant from Department of Motor Vehicles (cost is $10.00)

*Please note that a new Defensive Driving Class is required every four years by district policy. Please check the "Staff Alphabetical List" above to see if a Defensive Driving class or additional credential information is needed to drive students this year.



Guidelines in Reviewing Driving Abstracts

  • Driver must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Driver must have a valid Washington state driver's license.
  • Driver must have at least three years driving experience.
  • Driver shall have no suspensions or revocations within the preceding three years.
  • Driver shall not have incurred three or more speeding tickets within 36 months.
  • Driver shall not have been convicted of hit and run driving in the preceding three years.
  • Driver shall not have been convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) in preceding three years. "Deferred prosecution" is the same as a DUI or DWI.
  • Driver shall not hav been convicted of reckless driving in the preceding three years.
  • Driver shall not have been convicted of negligent driving of a serious nature in the preceding three years.
  • Driver shall not have been convicted of vehicular assault in the preceding three years.
  • Driver shall not have been convicted of vehicular homicide in the preceding three years.
