Student Accounts: Getting Student Passwords
By default, initial student passwords are the first 4 letters of the student's last name, 2 digits for the student's birth month, and 2 digits for the student's birth date.
Students are prompted to change their passwords the first time they log on.
When a student forgets a password, teachers can easily reset it to the default.
CAUTION: Students and staff must be aware that all passwords must be kept secure. If passwords are shared, someone can log on as another user and delete or change files, as well as perform malicious acts under that person's credentials. Tell students their passwords confidentially. It is each student's responsibility to keep his or her password confidential.

Default Student Passwords
In order to log on the first time, students will need to know their default student passwords. Once logged on, they will be prompted to change the password.
The default student password is:
- first 4 characters of last name (remove spaces, hyphens, and apostrophes)
- 2 digits for birth month
- 2 digits for birth date
Examples:
- gree1215
- ho0623
- hua0105
- nels0804
- Apostrophe example: O'Leary = ole0101
Case matters! It's all lowercase.
For last names shorter than 4 characters, don't add spaces, just enter as many as there are, and move onto the birth month.
For birth months and days less than 10, prefix a zero so it is 2 digits long.
When students create their new passwords, be sure they are aware the passwords must be at least 5 characters in length.
Note: Students' Skyward passwords are no longer used for computer access. Students have one username and two passwords. 1 password for computer access and 1 password for Skyward access.
Resetting Student Passwords
Teachers reset student passwords to the initial format using WebWarden™.
Note: In 2006-2007, teachers could look up students' passwords when they were forgotten. Since teachers can reset passwords, this is no longer necessary, and for security, the service is no longer provided.
