Getting Computer Names

In order to make computers accept student logons, techs need to know the exact computer name. Please follow these steps to identify the computer name:

  1. Right-click on My Computer
  2. My Computer should be located either on the desktop or in the Start menu.

  3. From the menu that opens, choose Properties
  4. In the window that opens click the Computer Name tab
  5. The computer name is the numbers or text to the right of Full computer name, before .edmonds.wednet.edu. In the example above, the computer name is 0080674FXA.
  6. NOTE: If your computer name is not followed by .edmonds.wednet.edu, please let your tech know "the computer is not in the domain."

  7. Click Cancel or the red X to close the window

Getting Network Printer Names

When students log onto computers as themselves, they will not have printers installed unless you let your tech know which printers you want students to use. If you manually install printers on the computers, they will not work for all students.

Follow these directions to let your tech know which network printers you want installed automatically:

  1. Click the link for your school and a new window will open listing all of your school's network printers
  2. NOTE: The links below will not work from home. They will also only work with Internet Explorer. If you are using Firefox or another browser, click Start, choose Run, type the link for your school, and click OK.

  3. From the list that opens, write down or type in an email the exact names of the printers you want automatically installed. Identify which one you want as the default.
  4. NOTE: Printers are named by school, room number, and then a unique number for the printer in that room.

  5. Close the printer list
