Nightly Care of Mobile Labs

Since the labs are prevented from keeping changes that are made during the day, they get their updates at night if they are left on the right way.

Putting the laptops away

Every night, do the following:

  1. Log off (Do not shut down)
  2. Close the laptop
  3. Plug the laptop into its power in the cart making sure it shows it is charging (iBooks: cord glows orange where it plugs into laptop; Gateways: light on top turns magenta instead of blue)
  4. Close and lock the cart
  5. Make sure the cart is plugged into power and network

The laptops will get their updates, any newly requested software, and shut down when they are done. If they are not off in the morning, email the LANDesk Sytem Administrator and let him know.

Weekends and Breaks

Weekends and breaks are great times for the computers to receive large updates. Although the cart has a sign saying to unplug it over the weekend, this is not absolutely necessary since the laptops will shut themselves off once they have finished updating.

Over week-long breaks, unless otherwise notified, the carts can be left unplugged.

If the laptops will not be used for more than a month, such as over the summer, remove the batteries. This will make the batteries last longer.
