Connecting Windows-Based Computers to Edmonds Wireless
STOP! Before you go any further, if the district owns the computer you want to connect, it should connect automatically. Call 7333, tell the Help Desk the barcode of your computer, and ask for help with why it is not connecting. They will do some basic troubleshooting, make sure it is in the domain, and update its policies.
edmonds_wpa vs. edmonds_wep
All Edmonds School District sites have two wireless networks: edmonds_wpa and edmonds_wep. WPA is more secure, and thus the better choice; however, some older machines are unable to connect to it and those machines will use wep instead.
Connection Requirements
If the district does not own the computer you want to connect, please review these requirements:
- You will most likely need to be running Windows 2000 or higher
- You will need a wireless card installed (a, b, or g should work)
- You will need a district User Name and Password (for non-district employees, please contact the Help Desk at ext 7333 for a guest user name and password)
- Student user names and passwords will not work for wireless authentication
- It does not matter how you are logged onto Windows
