Theater Mode: Windows Media Player on the Projector
These directions apply to all but the first 128 Gateway M460s. The first 128 don't have the problem, so they don't need the solution. Check this list for your barcode!
Problems
There are two known problems with Windows Media Player:
- You can view the video on the laptop, but not at all on the projector. Solve this by Enabling Theater Mode.
- You can view the video on both the laptop and the projector, but the video is full screen on the laptop and the Windows Media Player buttons show on the projector. Solve this by Setting the Laptop as the Primary Screen.
Enabling Theater Mode
To view DVDs in Windows Media Player on the laptop and the projector at the same time, follow these directions:
- Right-click on the desktop and choose Properties (or open Control Panel, and then open Display)
- Click the Settings tab
- Click the Advanced button
- Click the Overlay tab (if you do not have an Overlay tab, check your barcode against this list. If you're on the list, you don't have the problem, so you don't need to follow these directions.)
- If a message opens, click OK
- Check the box for Theater Mode
- Click OK
- Click OK
Now, when you play DVDs, the DVD will show full screen on the projector even if it is in a smaller window on the laptop. You can even minimize Windows Media Player and take attendance or find an online resource at the last minute while the video continues to play full screen out of the projector.
Setting the Laptop as the Primary Screen
If the video is showing full screen on the laptop and windowed on the projector (reverse of what should be happening) follow these directions:
- Right-click on desktop and choose Properties
- Click Settings tab
- Click Advanced button
- Click Displays tab
- Select the target button for the one that should be the primary screen--usually Panel
