Adjusting Touchpad Sensitivity
The touchpad on Gateway laptops can be very sensitive. You can change its sensitivity, or turn off the ability to tap instead of click.

Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity
If you accidentally click things by brushing your hands across the touchpad, adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad by following these directions:
- In the bottom right corner of your screen, right-click on the Synaptics Pointing Device icon
- In the context menu, choose Pointing Device Properties
- In the Mouse Properties dialog box, click the Device Settings tab, and then click the Settings button
- In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad V5.9 on PS/2 Port dialog box, click the plus sign next to Sensitivity and then click on Touch Sensitivity. Read the description and adjust the slider as needed.

Turn off Tap To Click
If adjusting the sensitivity does not solve the problem, turn off the Tap to Click feature using these directions.
When you are done, you will still be able to move the mouse pointer by sliding your finger across the touchpad, but you will have to use the left click button in order to click, double-click, or drag.
- In the bottom right corner of your screen, right-click on the Synaptics Pointing Device icon
- In the context menu, click Tap to Click

The checkmark indicates that the option is turned on. Clicking the option toggles the option off. If you repeat step 1, there will be no checkmark.
