Setting the Default Folder View in Windows
These directions will be helpful for people who often view folders containing a lot of files. Instead of finding large icons in one folder, small icons in another, and list in yet another, you can set all folders to default to the same setting. My favorite is Details. The other options are:
- Thumbnails: Large icons with small text are shown from left to right with pictures previewing folder contents and showing icons of images and documents
- Tiles: Large icons with small text are shown from left to right
- Icons: Small icons with small text are shown from left to right
- List: Small icons with small text are shown from top to bottom
- Details: Small icons with small text are shown from top to bottom with additional, sortable columns listing file type, size, and date modified
Setting the Default View
To change and set the view as the default, follow these steps:
- From the Start menu, choose My Documents (or open any folder containing multiple files)
- Click the Views button
and select a view - Repeat step 2, selecting different views, until you find the one you like.
- From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options
- In the Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab, select Apply to All Folders, and click OK.
