Outlook 2003

If you have used Outlook before, but are new to Outlook 2003, these directions will help you figure out where things are and how to customize the screen to your needs. Outlook 2007 is very similar, so these directions will help with that, too.

Finding Public Folders

Edmonds School District's Public Folders are not listed in Outlook 2003 by default. To see the public folders, use one of the following methods to open the Folder List:

Scroll to the bottom of the folder list to see Public Folders.

Creating Shortcuts

You can add shortcuts to your favorite folders. This is especially helpful with Public Folders.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click the Shortcuts button
  2. The Shortcuts pane opens

  3. In the Shortcuts pane, click Add New Shortcut
  4. The Add to Navigation Pane dialog box opens

  5. In the Add to Navigation Pane dialog box, scroll through the list of folders to select the one you want, and then click OK

The folder you selected is now listed under shortcuts. In future, to view your shortcuts, click the Shortcuts button, and then click the folder you want to view.

Customizing the Navigation Pane

You can change what buttons are located on the Navigation pane, in what order they are listed, and whether they show as icons or bars with words.

Icons or Bars

To change whether the Navigation pane displays icons or bars, hover your mouse over the line between the top of the Navigation pane and the buttons so that you get a double-headed arrow. Then click and hold to resize. Drag up for more bars. Drag down for more icons.

To change what buttons or bars are listed:

  1. Click the sergeant symbol at the bottom of the Navigation pane and choose Navigation Pane Options
  2. The Navigation Pane Options window opens

  3. Remove checkmarks from what you do not want listed
  4. Click Move Up and Move Down to change the order
  5. Click OK when done
