Projector Lamp Message

Hitachi projector lamps have an expected lifespan of 1500-2000 hours.

Once the lamp has burned for 1700 hours, a message will come up on the screen every time you start the projector telling you that you need to replace the lamp.

This is actually a warning to have a spare lamp on hand. Let the tech point person at your school know that this message came up so they can cash in a free lamp voucher. If you don't know who to tell, check this list for your building tech person.

Resetting the Lamp Timer

Once you have let someone know you will need a new lamp soon, you can make the message stop coming up by resetting the lamp timer:

  1. Press the Menu button (use the one on top of the projector if you can--it's a little easier than the remote)
  2. Arrow to OPTION and press the right arrow (if you do not see OPTION, arrow to Advanced menu, press the right arrow, and then arrow to OPTION and press the right arrow)
  3. Arrow to LAMP TIME
  4. Press and hold the right arrow for 3 seconds
  5. Up arrow to RESET

Lamp Vouchers for CP-S235 Projector

Every Hitachi CP-S235 classroom projector comes with 1 free replacement lamp. Rather than asking schools to store that many lamps until needed, the district received vouchers for those lamps.

If you need replacement of a lamp that is for a Levy Projector other than the Hitachi CP-S235, please go here.

When to Redeem?

You may redeem your lamp vouchers as soon as you see fit. You may choose to redeem several now in order to have lamps on hand when they begin to burn out.

How to Redeem?

Lamp Replacement for other Levy Projectors

For replacement of lamps in:

Hitachi CP-S240

Hitachi CP-X251

Hitachi CP-X430

*CP-S235 Projector Lamps may be redeemed using Lamp Vouchers which have been distributed to each school.  For information on this process, please go here.

The above-listed projectors did not come with lamp-replacement coupons and for this reason, the process to replace their lamps is a bit different.  If a lamp in one of these projectors at your school goes out, please follow this Replacement Procedure:

  • Contact Chris Bailey with the projector’s Location/Room Number, Model Number, District Barcode Number and Serial Number, as well as the Teacher’s First and Last name.  An order for a replacement will then be made and paid for out of Technology funds.
  • Getting a Loaner Projector: With this new procedure, there are a few important things to note:
    1. The levy will provide only one replacement lamp per Levy projector.  A second, third, etc. replacement lamp will become the responsibility of the user/building.
    2. This process does not replace the existing procedure for replacing
CP-S235 lamps.  You may continue to request these from Hitachi using lamp vouchers which were given to each building.
    3. This process only applies to projectors that were purchased with 2004-2008 Levy funds.  It does not apply to projectors purchased by individual buildings using tech allocation funds or other building funds, nor does it apply to theft-replacement projectors.  In these cases, the user would need to work with the department that purchased the projector.

If you have any additional questions about the above information, please contact Chris Bailey.

    Thank you!

    90-Day Warranty

The lamps have a 90-day warranty. You may not want to redeem too many lamp vouchers at once so the warranty will not expire while the lamps are still on your shelf.

    Exploding Lamps

Normally lamps will get dim and then burn out. Sometimes, however, they explode. According to Hitachi, this is more likely to happen if filters are not cleaned, projectors are tilted too far, or the projector is unplugged without being allowed to cool down. Sometimes, however, it can be a defect in the projector that is covered by warranty.

Please use your vouchers to replace lamps that explode and then call the Help Desk (ext 7333) with the projector barcode. The Help Desk will track projectors where lamps explode more than once in short periods of time so we can have Hitachi repair them under warranty as well as reimburse you with the cost of the original and replacement lamps.

    Lamp Cost

Replacement lamps for classroom projectors (Hitachi CP-S235 and CP-S240) cost $165.

    Higher-Power Projectors

PE departments and some libraries are receiving more powerful projectors (Hitachi CP-X430). These also come with one free replacement lamp. Rather than vouchers, schools will receive the actual lamps.

    Replacing the Lamp

Please refer to the user manual for replacing the lamp.

If you cannot find the User Manual that came with the projector, enter the model number of the projector plus "user manual" in the Search box at the projector page on Hitachi's Web site.

    A Note From Hitachi

Doc Bassett from Hitachi sent us the following note:

The Hitachi Projectors are pre-programmed to provide a Lamp Message at 1700 hours - - (some of the newer models will not have this) - - it is just a warning to be prepared for possible end of life of the Lamp - - (normal life expectancy = 1500 ~ 2000 Hours) - - What your Librarians have done is OK – resetting the Lamp Timer is fine - - However, when the current Lamp does fail - - and a new one is installed - - please ask them to again reset to Zero so that you will have an idea when it is time to expect another possible lamp change - -

Yes, I would strongly suggest having Spare Lamps on Hand - - Lamps are just like household lights – and one can never be sure when they may expire - -

I hope that this answers your issues - - please feel free at any time to contact me for any of these types of issues….

Also, just as a reminder - - to help the life of the Projectors and the Lamps - - be sure there is always a good schedule for cleaning the Filters - - - clean Filters will always be of help in life of the Units….
