Visually Impaired

This program serves students aged birth-21. Services focus on instruction in compensatory skills for the visually impaired that include: Braille, specialized academic skill instruction (in-class or pull-out), use of adaptive technology, and orientation/mobility. Large type, Braille, and/or recorded materials are made available to students per their individual needs, with itinerant support for students in their home schools. Communication with parents, teachers and members of each multi-disciplinary team is on-going in addition to consultation regarding students with a secondary disability of visual impairment. Upon completion of schooling, assistance is provided to facilitate the transition into the adult system, including contact with Department of Services for the Blind and other community resources.
