Voicemail Features
Accessing VM for the first time
When you login to Voice Mail for the first time, you will be asked to record your name, standard greeting and change your password.
First time Voice Mail Set-up:
You will hear the following message prompts, in Bold Text below, to guide you through the voice mailbox setup:
Hello, Cisco Unity Messaging System.
- Press The VOICE MAIL button.
- Note: If you are at a phone that doesn't display your extension, you must press * and it will ask for your ID.
Enter your ID, followed by #.
- Enter your phone extension, then #.
Enter your password, then press #.
Welcome to Cisco Unified Communications. Please take a moment to personalize or update your Cisco
Unity Settings. To exit, press *.
RECORD YOUR NAME:
A recorded name identifies you to other callers, it also lets others know who left a message.
You have no recorded name. To keep this, press #. To record a new name say your first and
last names at the tone then press #.
- Speak your first and last name clearly, it is recommended you also state your location. For example:
Jane Doe, Edmonds School District, Meadowlake High School. Press #.
Your recorded name is: (ex) : Jane Doe, Edmonds School District, Meadowlake High School.
To keep the recorded name press #, or press 1 to re-record.
To record a new name, say your first and last names at the tone, then press #.
- At this point you may re-record and or change the name if you wish.
RECORD A PERSONAL GREETING
When callers cannot reach you they may leave a message. A personal greeting encourages callers to leave a message.
Your standard greeting is: "Sorry : Jane Doe, Edmonds School District, Meadowlake High School is not available."
To re-record this greeting press 1. To keep it and continue, press #.
- It is recommended that you personalize the standard, an example might include: "Hello this is Jane Doe,
Meadowlake HS, I'm either on the phone with another caller or away from my desk/classroom, please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible."
RECORD A PASSWORD
A password protects the privacy of your messages. Your password must be at least 4 digits long. Use a password that is easy to remember, but hard for others to guess.
For extra security, you may be prompted to change your password periodically.
Enter your new password, followed by #. For help, press 0.
- Enter your new personal password, then #.
Enter your password again to confirm it, then press #.
- Enter your new personal password, then #.
Your new password is active. You have finished enrollment.
Standard Voice Mail Menu after setup
Hello, you have no new messages.
To send a new message, press 2
To review old messages, press 3
To change setup options press 4
To find a message, press 5
For help, press 0
To exit the system, press *
NOTE: If you hang up before you have completed the enrollment process, none of your changes will be saved.
Changing your recorded name
- While in VM, press 4 > 3 > 2.
- Follow the prompts to re-record your name.

Controlling playback when listening to a message

Accessing VM when I am not on my phone
From within the Edmonds School District
- Press the VOICE MAIL button (the one that looks like an envelope) or call 7310. You will hear "Enter your password, followed by #"
- Press *. Then, you will hear "Enter your ID, followed by #." This is where you enter your voicemail #.
From outside the Edmonds School District
- Dial (425) 431-7310. You will hear "Hello, Cisco Unity Messaging Center. From a touch tone telephone you may dial an extension at any time..."
- Press *. Then, you will hear "Enter your ID, followed by #." This is where you enter your voicemail #.
Sending VM without ringing a desk
To leave a voice message for another District employee without ringing their desk –
From within the Edmonds School District
- Press * before entering the extension. For example, if you wanted to leave the HelpDesk a voice message, you would pick-up the phone and dial *7333. This also works when transferring a call directly to Voicemail.
From outside the Edmonds School District
- Dial (425) 431-7310. You will hear "Hello, Cisco Unity Messaging Center. From a touch tone telephone you may dial an extension at any time..."
- Dial the extension, then press #.
Sample Greetings
Standard Greetings:
Hello, this is__________________________ in the Technology Department of the Edmonds School District. I'm not available at this time. Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. If you need to speak with someone right away, please press zero (0) and then the pound (#) sign on your telephone and you will be transferred. Thank you for calling.
Hello, this is___________________________ at Edmonds Elementary. I'm not available at this time. Please leave a message and I will return you call as soon as possible. If you need to speak with someone right away, please press zero (0) and then the pound (#) sign on your telephone and you will be transferred. Thank you for calling.
Alternate Greetings :
Hello, this is_____________________________. I will be out of the office from July 1st to August 1st. If you need assistance, please press zero (0) and then the pound (#) sign on your telephone and you will be transferred. Thank you for calling.
Hello, this is_____________________________. I will be out of the office from April 1st to the 15th. While I'm gone, Betsy Smith will be taking calls for me at 425-431-1234 or you may press zero (0) and then the pound (#) sign on your telephone and you will be transferred. Thank you for calling.
Hello, this is_____________________________. I will be in meetings most of the day, however, I will be checking for messages. Please leave a message and I will return you call as quickly as possible. If you need assistance right away, please call 425-431-1234 to speak the Betsy Smith who will be taking calls for me, or press zero (0) and then the pound (#) sign on your telephone and you will be transferred. Thank you for calling.
Hello, today is Thursday, July 21st . I will be in my office this morning and in meetings this afternoon, however, I will be checking for messages and will return your call as soon as possible. If you need assistance right away, please press zero (0) and then the pound (#) sign on your telephone and you will be transferred. Thank you for calling.
