Madrona K-8 , one of the three K-8 schools in the Edmonds School District,
serves nearly 650 students in grades K through 8.
Our Goals Include:
- Math — Consistently use thinking strategies in math instruction school-wide with
the goal of improving and deepening students’ understanding in math.
- Reading & Writing — Place an emphasis on student conferencing and increased op-portunities for
student sharing to improve student comprehension using the reader’s and writer’s workshop model.
Our Celebrations Include:
- Percentage of fourth-graders meeting standard on the 2007 Washington Assessment of Student Learning:
- Reading: 84.1%
- Math: 74.6%
- Writing: 68.3%

- A new reading buddies program began in 2006-07, with a primary student reading aloud to an
intermediate student to increase comprehension, encourage good reading habits, and further a sense
of community at Madrona.
