Restoring Your Profile

When you lose your profile, you should go through the following steps to restore it:

1.  Add printers.  Use the Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer to find the proper print server.  The servers are:  MTHS2, MTHSBusEd, and MTHSTech.  You can type the computer name (prefixed with double backslash) in the address line (eg. \\MTHS2)  Find the printer you want to add.  Right click its Icon and select connect (install on NT4.0 computers).

2.  Reconfigure Internet Explorer Settings.  Right-click the Internet Explorer icon found on your desktop and select Properties.  Click on Settings for Temporary Internet Files and change the "amount of disk space to use" to the minimum and then click OK.  For the newer versions of Internet Explorer, the minimum is 1 MB.  Change the days history is saved to 1 day rather than 20 days.

3.  Setup a background for your desktop so that you can easily tell when you are logged on.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

INTERNET EXPLORER:  When you first run Internet Explorer with a new profile it will give you a message about not having the authority to run the program.  This is a bogus message.  Just click OK and it will work just fine.

MS Word (or any other MS program):  When you first run this program, you will have to enter your initials, and tell the paperclip to disappear, and select "start using Word" from the little box next to the paper clip.

REMEMBER:  NEVER STORE DATA THAT YOU CARE ABOUT IN YOUR PROFILE.  YOUR DESKTOP IS PART OF YOUR PROFILE.
