| Honors:Students at MTHS can achieve honors designation in all of the social studies courses offered. Taking honors Social Studies courses, as well as AP courses, can greatly improve any student’s post high school academic success and civic participation. In addition to meeting the requirements for World History, students will engage in rigorous individual and small group projects. Students will read honors level texts, analyzing primary as well as secondary sources. Students will approach historical issues from multiple perspectives. Students will write for history and learn to use historical evidence in their writing. Students will answer at least two document based questions, using comparison, analysis and critical thinking to synthesize and summarize the historical information. Finally, students best works will be compiled in a portfolio and presented to either their teacher or department chair at the conclusion of their year in order to receive honors credit. | ||
Students in World
History 9 will examine the origins of beliefs systems such as: Hinduism,
Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Students will also study
world history by investigating the theme of Global Expansion and Encounter
(Approximately 1400-1750). Studies will use a variety of social studies
skills including: examining data and facts and drawing conclusions
from the data, separating fact from opinion, explaining ideas, writing
essays, comparing and contrasting, recognizing cause and effect, and
working collaboratively. |
Students in World
History 10 will examine world history, geography, and concepts in
economics from 1750 to the present. Content in the course includes
topics such as: The Age of Revolution, the Causes and Consequences
of International Conflicts, Challenges to Human Rights, and the Emergence
of New Nations . Studies will use a variety of social studies skills
including: examining data and facts and drawing conclusions from the
data, separating fact from opinion, explaining ideas, writing essays,
comparing and contrasting, recognizing cause and effect, and working
collaboratively. |
