Family and Consumer Sciences

Fashion Design  (HEC 405/406)

Prerequisite: Grade 10, 11, 12

Length:  2 semesters/ year long

Credits: .5 per semester

Equivalency: 2 semesters = 1 semester of  Art

Explore the world of fashion in this introductory level class. Fashion trends, design styles and the history of fashion affect what is currently “in style”. This course will cover concepts such as fashion & design, clothing construction, textiles, and careers in the fashion and clothing industry. Learn about color, design and create several projects. This class is project based and students will be required to complete individual sewing projects.

Drama

Technical Theatre  (ENG506)

Prerequisite: None

Length:  1 semester
Credits:  .5
Equivalency: 1 sem =1 sem of CTE
The course will introduce the student to the fundamentals of technical theater. It is designed as a "hands on" approach to working techniques, safety guidelines, and procedures for the behind the scenes aspect of play production.

 

This course will include the opportunity for experience in:

Students will participate in a technical position for the selected play before the student body and the community. This class requires extensive after-school and evening time commitment.

Technology

Digital Communications (COM119)

Prerequisite:  Concurrent enrollment in English 9

Length:  1 semester

Credits:  .5 per semester

Tech Prep Credit Available

Students learn and master skills and competencies in current technology through simulation as help desk employees of the "ACME Computer Company." This course is a mixture of self-directed study, online chats and threaded discussions, online quizzes and project-based assignments. Throughout this trimester course, students complete a variety of modules: Introduction to Distance Learning, The History of Computers, Basic Computer Skills, The Internet, Computer Hardware, Intro to Microsoft XP Applications, and Career Planning and Preparation. Basic keyboarding skill building will also be taught in this course.

Learning will be assessed through self-directed study, online evaluations through scoring rubrics, traditional tests/quizzes, project based assignments, teacher observation/evaluation, peer evaluations, and online discussion.
