World Art  (ART446)

Discover the rich cultural heritage of art from all over the world. Multicultural art works will serve to inspire responses for assignments involving clay, fiber, paper, etc. Knowledge necessary to work intelligently, skillfully and creatively with media will be developed. Elements and principles of design and aesthetics, written and/or oral critiques, and the historical heritage of art produced will be stressed. Learn to appreciate the diversity of our world through the Arts.

Learning will be assessed in a variety of methods: Art scoring rubrics assessing each student's project on their idea and expression, use of elements and principles of design, technique and skill with chosen media, willingness to experiment, and effort /work ethic. Teacher observations/evaluations. Participation in written and/or oral critiques Student self evaluations.

Introduction to Art (ARTXXX)

Prerequisite:  None

This introductory class is strongly recommended for the student as a beginning art class. In this class you will work with a variety of drawing materials to learn new ways of expressing your creativity using the elements and principles of design. Drawing projects in this class are not the kind given in conventional drawing classes, where students are asked to look at an object and then reproduce it on a page. Rather, the assignments encourage you to turn your attention and vision inward to create imaginative and intuitive drawings using an assortment of drawing media. Build a firm foundation of drawing skills. Gain self-confidence in the knowledge that you are unique and your ideas have merit. THIS CLASS MAY BE TAKEN ONLY ONCE FOR CREDIT.

Advanced Drawing(XXX000)

Prerequisite:  Studio Art or Introduction to Art

Fee:  $15.00

This class is for students who wish to continue their drawing practice and experience more challenging drawing projects.  This course is geared to students who feel comfortable with their ability to draw and wants to develop their skills, improve their techniques and work on more advanced projects with various drawing media.

Students will complete drawings which reinforce the concepts taught.  The elements of line, color, shape, form, space, texture, and value will be the foundation used with the principles of design to create works of art in diverse media. 

Assignments are graded on objective criteria as well as creative use of materials and concepts.  Students work is usually displayed in and around the school premises.

 Studio Art (ART445)

Prerequisite:  None

Learn basic approaches to drawing and/or painting using a variety of subject matter, including still-life, landscape, figure and fantasy. Problems presented stress perception and stylistic organization of line, space, value, texture and color. Explore a variety of media and experiment with techniques and processes. Works of major artists working in related media are studied. THIS CLASS MAY BE REPEATED FOR CREDIT.

Advanced Studio Art (XXX000)

Prerequisite:  Successfully complete on of the following classes:  Beginning Fine Art, Drawing and Painting or Studio Art
Fee:  $15.00 per trimester
Length:  2 semesters/year long
Credits:  .5 per semester

This year long class is for the more serious art student with emphasis placed on developing a more personal approach to drawing and/or painting problems through advanced exploration of techniques and media. The media for this course may include the use of water colors, ink, pencil, pastels, charcoal, acrylics and oils. A study of the work of artists and art movements, past and present, is included. Students will be expected to keep sketchbook and create a portfolio of their artwork throughout year.

Painting  (ARTXXX)

Prerequisite: Introduction to Art or Studio Art

Fee:  $18.00
Length: 1 semester

Learn how to paint with various media - watercolor, acrylics, oil paint, and colored pastels.  You will study images and color through still-life, landscape, and the figure.  You will be challenged by subject matter ranging from realism to abstraction and fantasy.  Experimental techniques is mixed media will also be explored.  STUDENTS MAY REPEAT THIS COURSE TO IMPROVE SKILLS FOR CREDIT.

Beginning Drama (XXX000)

Prerequisite:  None 

Length:  1 semester

You will learn the basics of acting for the theater through a variety of activities including theater games, improvisation, script analysis, and performance in a joyful, non-threatening environment.

You will demonstrate your learning through performances, participation, peer and self assessments.

Digital Photography (ART431)

Prerequisite:  None 

Fee:  $25.00

Length:  1 semester
Credits:  .5

Do you like taking photographs but don't like the thought of a dark room?  Then this is the class for you!   It is estimated by those in the industry that film photography could be completely gone in less than five years.  Learn all the skills of photography in the modern digital world.  You will be able to take pictures using state of the art digital cameras and digitally process them using Adobe Photoshop on state of the art computers. Pictures will be printed on laser photo paper and mounted for presentation.  (There will be a modest lab fee for this class).

Learning will be assessed in a variety of methods:  comparisons to scoring rubrics and models, traditional tests, demonstrations of ability to apply knowledge, projects, teacher observations/evaluations, peer evaluations, and journals.

World Culture Arts and Music (XXX000)

Length:  1 semester

In this course students will be taking a journey through diverse world cultures with the express purpose of learning more about ourselves. What are the primary aspects of creating a community and what do they say about what one values will be a guiding theme for this course. We will participate in the creation of music and folk crafts from around the world, and we will specifically look at lost or nearly lose cultural groups from across the globe.

Students in this course will be able to: 
·Identify key aspects of what makes up a culture 
·Gain a keen understanding of specific values of a variety of world cultures 
·Experiment in the creation of specific cultural music and/or musical instruments 
·Experiment in the creation of specific cultural arts and crafts 
·Compare and contrast some of the typical American values with the basic values of other cultures in the world
