 Spanish 1A/1B (FLS101/102)

Prerequisite: None

Length:  2 semesters/year long
Credits:  .5 per semester

The course will focus on the comprehension of spoken Spanish around topics of ordinary, daily life. In addition to understanding, students will begin to speak, read and write at basic levels. The class will be active and inter-active, with skits, presentations, and hands-on projects through the concepts of TPRS.. As part of the Renaissance School, the vocabulary learned will reflect our school theme and the concepts learned in our core courses.

Learning will be demonstrated through oral presentations prompted by drawings or actions; story-telling; writing projects and written exams.

Spanish 2A/2B (FLS201/202)

Prerequisite: Spanish 1 

Length:  2 semesters/year long

Credits:  .5 per semester

While still using comprehension of oral language as our basic skill, this course will expand vocabulary and teach language structures via TPRS and in accordance with its role as a prerequisite for most four-year universities. A variety of topics in Hispanic culture, history and travel will reinforce concepts learned in other Renaissance School courses.

Learning will be demonstrated through oral presentations; story-telling; group conversation; re-enactment of videos; writing projects and written exams.

Spanish 3A/3B (FLS301/302)

Prerequisite:  Spanish 2 

Length:  2 semesters/year long

Credits:  .5  per semester

This course will focus on the expansion of language skills. There will be more emphasis on conversation, reading, writing, and discussion. There will also be an introduction to literature of the language. Possible community service may be required.

Learning will be demonstrated through oral presentations; group conversation; re-enactment of videos; improvisation; speeches; analytical papers at appropriate level; written exams.

Prerequisite:  Spanish 3

Length:  2 semesters/year long

Credits:  .5 per semester

This course will focus on the expansion of language skills. There will be more emphasis on conversation, reading, writing, and discussion. There will also be an introduction to literature of the language. Possible community service may be required.

Learning will be demonstrated through oral presentations; group conversation; re-enactment of videos; improvisation; speeches; analytical papers at appropriate level; written exams.
