This course is designed to assist the student in developing flexibility, strength, coordination muscle tone, and endurance using a variety of dance styles. Students will be able to develop an appreciation of dance as an art form by engaging in the fundamentals of dance composition, movement discovery and looking at dance from a historical perspective. Fulfills P.E. or Arts requirement. Can be repeated for credit. Students will be assessed on their level of participation in each daily activity. Basic dance skills and compositions will be assessed through peer evaluation, self -evaluation and instructor evaluation/observation. |
Structured around Resistance Training and the Cardiovascular Component of our Fitness Principles. We will explore and participate in some unconventional ways of increasing muscular strength/endurance. These new workouts feature the use of our own body weight, medicine balls, flex-bans and dumbbells. Guaranteed to produce results and enjoyment. Can be repeated for credit. This course will be assessed through before/after fitness tests, Fitness Article reviews, keeping exercise intensity within and and monitoring their personal target heart rate zone and using correct technique and demonstration of all circuit activities. |
In this class we will be exploring and learning games from around the world. Games not played with regularity in the United States which are very popular on a global scale. Students will learn the game origins, histories and the skills needed to be successful in playing them. Can be repeated for credit. This course will be assessed through accurately completed "fact finding" worksheets, demonstration of proper skill technique and knowledge of the rules and strategies through game situations. |
Learn responsible decision making, critical thinking and problem solving. Students will focus on developing an overall healthy lifestyle. Topics include: mental health, coping with high school issues (time management, stress management, grief/loss, etc.), drugs/alcohol/tobacco prevention, sex education including STDs and early development of a human, leadership development, and broad career exploration in this particular field. This course will be assessed through quizzes and tests, written assignments, group and individual unit projects. |
