Fit for Life  (PHE410)

This class provides a solid background in understanding your personal fitness needs through a variety of activities, sports, and games. Students will learn how to work on their fitness strengths and weaknesses. The class combines activities in the weight room, gyms and outdoors for a varied experience. Class is designed for repeat credit.  

Students will have varied opportunities to demonstrate competence of course content including, but not limited to the following: Students will learn to choose and participate in activities throughout the week to include all the components of fitness. Students will design and implement a personal fitness plan based upon their fitness strengths and weaknesses. Students will keep track of progress on a log. Students will demonstrate competence using technological devices (such as heart rate monitors) to assist in fitness activities and assessments.

Discover the top 10 medical breakthroughs in history and how they've affected your life. Topics include mental health, drug and alcohol awareness, nutrition, personal wellness plan, anatomy, disease prevention, family health history, community resources, human sexuality and HIV/AIDS. Develop decision making and problem solving skills to become better able to make responsible choices regarding your health. Required for graduation.

Learning will be assessed in a variety of methods: comparisons to scoring rubrics and models, traditional quizzes, demonstrations of ability to apply knowledge, projects, teacher observations/evaluations and peer evaluations.
