Elements of Design  (ART170)

This is an activity based course. Experience the elements and principles of design through a variety of art media (printmaking, crayons, paint, fabric, garbage, etc.). Explore art history, interior and fashion design, as well as your own personal creative style.

Learning will be assessed in a variety of methods: comparisons to scoring rubrics and models, traditional quizzes, demonstrations of ability to apply knowledge, projects, teacher observations/evaluations and peer evaluations.

Drawing (ART460)

Prerequisite: None

Discover and explore your own artistic potential. Improve your drawing skills. Develop and design project ideas. Explore the use of pencil, charcoal, colored pastels, and ink to develop your own artistic style. Arrange a portfolio for future use, and prepare your artwork for display.

Students are assessed by evaluations, individual and or group critiques.

Sculpture (ART440)

Prerequisite: None

Fee:  $20.00

Length:  1 semester
Credits:  .5

Learn hand building techniques while creating images in clay.  Experiment with a variety of mold making processes such as rubber silicon and plaster.  Cast your images in slip resin plastics and liquid foam.  Completed pieces can be painted or glazed.  Come and have fun!

Students are assessed by evaluations, individual and or group critiques. A final exam is given in Mold Making and Sculpture involving problem solving and demonstrations in various materials.

Creative Writing (ENG570)

Prerequisite: Junior or Senior Status

Length:  1 semester

Credits:  .5

This course will stay with you for a lifetime, I promise. In a circle, we write, laugh, talk, share and learn together. I write along with you, and the assignments are worth doing. I promise. You will value this course. I promise. You'll get a book of our work at the end, and you'll want to keep it. I promise. We will write tons of fun things, listen to music, keep a journal, study, and discuss nearly everything we do!
